"He was outstanding tonight" - England boss Lee Carsley heaps praise on superstar after Three Lions' 3-1 win over Finland
England national team interim manager Lee Carsley has heaped praise on Jack Grealish after the Three Lions' 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday, October 13. The manager stated that the Manchester City winger was outstanding and believes he would have helped them avoid defeat to Greece Last week.
England suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley Stadium in their previous Nations League encounter.
Speaking to the media after the match against Finland, Carsley stated he is pleased for Grealish. He said (via City Xtra):
"Jack [Grealish] was outstanding tonight [vs Finland]. It was a shame he missed the first game; he would've been really effective against Greece. I wish I could fast forward and play Greece next week… Jack was very good, an infectious character. Really pleased for him!"
Declan Rice, who scored in the win on Sunday, also praised Grealish after the match and said (via 101 Great Goals):
"Do you know how good Jack is? He has something very special. He looks really confident and I am buzzing for him. When he is playing well and happy, he is a massive boost for England. Since the manager has come in, he has been so honest, so refreshing. He has a way of playing and he really wants us to stick with that."
Jack Grealish (18') scored the opening goal for England in their 3-1 win over Finland. Trent Alexander-Arnold (74') and Declan Rice (84') also scored for the Three Lions, while Arttu Hoskonen (87') pulled one back for the home side in the final minutes of the game.
Jack Grealish praises England teammates and interim manager
Grealish was delighted with his performance but stated that England could have scored a few more in the win over Finland. The Manchester City winger also revealed that he owes Trent Alexander-Arnold £500 after challenging him to score from the free-kick. He said (via 101 Great Goals):
"We could have had a few more but it was difficult at times. The goal came from the manager letting us play with that freedom. I play with Angel Gomes in training and I know what a top player he is. The celebration was for my little daughter. I joked to Trent [Alexander-Arnold] before the free-kick' score this I will give you 500 quid' and he slapped it in top bin."
He added:
"Whatever happens with the England manager, people will always say negative stuff. Before people were crying out for all attacking players to play and it didn't work. I don't get it, it can happen in games. I love coming here, a top, top manager and I love playing for him."
Thomas Tuchel is reported to be in talks to become the next England manager. Pep Guardiola has ruled himself out of the running, while Graham Potter has also been linked with the job.
