"He is a phenomenon and I bet he will succeed for sure" - Former LaLiga star backs Kylian Mbappe to shine for Real Madrid
Former Sevilla striker Toni Polster has backed Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe to shine at the Santiago Bernabeu. Polster believes the Frenchman will find his groove in the Spanish capital once he solves his emotional issues.
Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. Considered one of the best players in the world during his time in the French capital, Mbappe arrived at Los Blancos with high expectations. However, his slow start to life at the Bernabeu has often brought into question whether he is truly a world-class player.
While Mbappe's goal output for Madrid is quite impressive so far, it pales in comparison to the overall legacy he set at PSG. Amid the criticisms that Mbappe has been subjected to, Toni Polster tipped the former PSG star to succeed in the Spanish capital.
In an interview with Spanish publication Diario AS, Polster was asked who he likes the most among the current Real Madrid players. He responded:
''I'll stick with Mbappé. I think he's spectacular. It's true that he hasn't started at his best in Real Madrid, but when he solves his emotional problems and is fully adapted, he'll enjoy success because he has everything you can ask of an attacking player. He's a phenomenon and I bet he'll succeed with total certainty.''
Kylian Mbappe has scored 13 goals and provided three assists for Real Madrid so far. His most recent goal contributions came in Los Blancos' 4-2 victory over Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday. He scored a goal and provided an assist.
The Frenchman seems to be finding his form as his goal and assist in Sunday's game saw him score and assist in back-to-back games for the first time with Real Madrid. He also scored and assisted in Madrid's previous match, which was against Pachuca in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.
Kylian Mbappe said he can do a lot more despite starring in Real Madrid's 4-2 win over Sevilla
In his post-match interview, Mbappe said that he can improve on his performance after bagging a goal and an assist to help his side secure three points against Sevilla.
Mbappe was named the Man of the Match. However, the Frenchman is yet to silence his doubters at the Santiago Bernabeu and will hope to do that soon.
Apart from fluffing his lines in some matches, Mbappe has missed two penalties for Los Blancos, the most recent against Athletic Bilbao. Mbappe claimed he "hit rock bottom" after he missed his spot kick against Bilbao.
However, he said it made him realize that he had to give his all for the Spanish club. He told Real Madrid TV (via ESPN):
"I can do a lot more. I know that I have a lot more in my legs. In the last few games I've played better. The game in Bilbao was good for me. I hit rock-bottom; I missed a penalty. It was the moment to realise that I have to give my all for this shirt and play with more personality."
