“He is a very physical player” - Liverpool superstar Alisson shares thoughts on Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ahead of Champions League clash
Liverpool star Alisson Becker has shared his thoughts on AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ahead of the two sides' Champions League clash on Tuesday, September 17. The Brazilian hailed his opposition number as a "great goalkeeper" and ranked him among the top 10 shot-stoppers in the world currently.
During a pre-match press conference, Alisson Becker provided answers to a host of questions. The Brazilian was asked about the quality of Mike Maignan by an Italian journalist and the Reds number one had nothing but praise for his counterpart.
"He is a great goalkeeper. He has done incredibly well for three, four, five years. Since he came to Milan he has always played wonderfully, and with the French national team he has replaced a great goalkeeper (Hugo Lloris) who has been world champion.
"He is a very physical player, is quick and technical, he is a very clean player. He is a very good goalkeeper, in the best 10 worldwide. There are so many good goalkeepers and he is one of the best," Alisson said (via Liverpool's official wesbite).
Liverpool and AC Milan last faced each other in the Champions League group stage back in 2022. The Reds managed to win both their group games, sealing a 2-1 win in Italy and following it up with a 3-2 victory in England.
Highlighting Liverpool and AC Milan's recent performances ahead of Champions League showdown
Both Liverpool and AC Milan have had a mixed start to the 2024-25 campaign. The Reds suffered a painful 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield in their last Premier League action. They have, however, won three of their four league games so far, beating the likes of Manchester United, Brentford and Ipswich Town.
AC Milan, meanwhile, have just one victory to their name in the Serie A this season to go with two draws and one defeat. They played out a 2-2 draw with Torino on Matchday 1, followed by a 2-1 loss to Parma and a 2-2 draw with Lazio before beating Venezia 4-0 the last time out.
After their Champions League clash with Liverpool, the Rossoneri will take on Inter Milan in a fierce derby at the weekend (Sunday, September 22). The Reds, meanwhile, will go head-to-head with Bournemouth in Premier League action on Saturday.
