"He is the priority" - Fabrizio Romano insists Manchester United are still waiting to sign 23-year-old target this summer

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that despite contrary reports, Manchester United remain keen on signing PSG star Manuel Ugarte this summer. The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder and have been linked with a number of options as potential additions.

Erik ten Hag's side have long been linked with PSG ace Manuel Ugarte, who struggled to feature regularly in his first season at the Parc des Princes. The Red Devils were said to have agreed personal terms with Ugarte but were put off by his club's asking price.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that contrary to reports of the club moving on to other targets, the club is waiting for an agreement with PSG for Ugarte. The journalist revealed on PlayBack that the 23-year-old remains a priority target for Erik ten Hag's side this summer.

"#mufc spoke to agents of some midfielders, but they're still WAITING for Manuel Ugarte. He is the PRIORITY."

Ugarte has his sights set on a move to Old Trafford after his struggles in France last season. With personal terms already in place, the midfielder will hope that Les Parisiens bring down their €60 million asking price to allow him to complete his transfer.

Manchester United continue to be linked with midfielders, with Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong another name to come up once again. The Red Devils have already added a new striker (Joshua Zirkzee) and centre-back (Leny Yoro), and they are keen to sign a defensive midfielder as well.

Ten Hag's Manchester United are set to face city rivals Manchester City in the 2024-25 Community Shield on Saturday, August 10.

Manchester United legend set to complete Serie A switch - Reports

Manchester United legend David de Gea is closing in on a transfer to Serie A outfit Fiorentina on a permanent basis for free. The former Spain international is a free agent, having left the Red Devils in the summer of 2023.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the 33-year-old goalkeeper will sign a one-year deal with La Viola, with an option to extend the deal for a further year. The goalkeeper will return to professional football after spending the entirety of the 2023-24 season without a club.

De Gea is a Manchester United legend, having made his name in his time at Old Trafford. The Spaniard made 545 appearances over 12 years as a Red Devil, making more appearances than any goalkeeper in the club's history and keeping more clean sheets. He won the Premier League's Golden Glove twice in the 2017-18 and 2022-23 seasons and won five major trophies at the club.
