"He has all the qualities needed to play for the national team" - Kylian Mbappe heaps praise on Real Madrid star

France national team captain Kylian Mbappe heaped praise on Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy ahead of the country's run at Euro 2024. Mendy made his international debut in November 2018 but never established himself as a regular in Les Bleus squad.

The 29-year-old left-back has been called up for Euro 2024, which will be his first major tournament with France. Expressing his confidence in Mendy's abilities, Mbappe said (via @MadridXtra on X):

"Ferland Mendy has a special history with the NT: He’s been here, he’s left, and he’s coming back for this EURO. His place is fully deserved. He has all the qualities needed to play for the NT. All he has to do now is write his history over the long term."

The 25-year-old star forward, who joined Real Madrid earlier this month, mentioned Mendy's impressive performances for Los Blancos. He added:

"This will be his first major tournament with France. It’s up to him to play for the NT in the same way as he does for Real Madrid. If he succeeds, there’s no reason why things shouldn’t work out."
"Since his arrival, he’s given the impression of being a quiet force, a man full of humility, yet sure of his strength," added Kylian Mbappe.

Ferland Mendy arrived at Santiago Bernabéu in 2019 following his two-season tenure at Lyon. He has won three La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League titles, three Supercopas de España, the 2022–23 Copa del Rey, and the 2022 UEFA Super Cup with Real Madrid.
