“He robbed us of Community Shield”, “Genuinely useless in this team” - Fans slam Manchester United star after defeat to Manchester City
Manchester United fans blasted Marcus Rashford on X after his poor performance in their defeat to Manchester City in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium. The Red Devils suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in normal time (Saturday, August 10).
Erik ten Hag named a more experienced starting line-up than Pep Guardiola but both sides had a few opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half. Amad Diallo squared the ball instead of shooting in the 31st minute following a wonderful team move. Rashford then missed a big chance from close range seven minutes later.
Bruno Fernandes had a brilliant outside-the-box curler disallowed for offside in the 54th minute. Rashford had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 75th minute but his shot was poor, striking outside of the left post. Fortunately for Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho made it 1-0 in the 82nd minute with an accurate finish into the bottom-right corner.
However, the 2023-24 Premier League champions showed great resilience to level the scores seven minutes later via Bernardo Silva's header one minute from time. The tie went straight to penalties where Manchester City emerged victorious with a 7-6 win. Jadon Sancho was Jonny Evans missed their spot-kicks for the Red Devils, while Silva was denied for City.
Marcus Rashford had a disappointing performance during his 83 minutes on the pitch. He landed zero of his three shots on target, missed two big chances, completed none of his two dribbles, and lost three duels.
One Manchester United fan reacted by posting:
"No Marcus Rashford is not real. He robbed us of Community Shield."
Another fan tweeted:
"Rashford is actually genuinely useless in this team. Provides nothing in buildup, cannot take on his man and needs multiple touches to keep it tidy. He’s simply useless now. No fullback fears him, so so one dimensional it’s a joke."

"We need to sell this dude. He is awful," one fan posted
"Rashford’s still the same," another added
"That is so embarrassing Rashford omds," one fan commented
"Rashford had a full summer off, a full pre-season, and he’s still off the pace," another chimed in
