"He's an incredible talent" - Alan Shearer names transfer fee Chelsea could receive if they put Cole Palmer on the transfer market
Alan Shearer believes that Chelsea star Cole Palmer would shatter the current Premier League transfer record if the west London club decided to sell him. The current transfer record in the division is the reported £106.8 million fee the Blues paid for World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez. They signed him from Benfica in January 2023.
The Premier League all-time highest goalscorer hailed the former Manchester City star, saying via The Mirror:
“We seem to be talking about Cole Palmer quite often these days, which is great for him and for Chelsea because he's a phenomenal talent and takes everything in his stride. Nothing seems to affect both his ability or his attitude. He uses that arrogance in a brilliant way, the confidence and the belief in himself, but then for him to pull it all off is superb."
“When he scores the number of goals he has done at Chelsea, and to become the first player ever to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League game, it just shows the heights he could reach."
He concluded by claiming Cole Palmer's potential valuation would be record-breaking for English football, saying:
"I thought he was going to join the list of players to score five goals and perhaps he should've but he's an incredible talent. It looks as if Chelsea have got him for a snip as well.
"There were eyebrows raised when they paid that amount of money for him but now it looks to be incredible business because if he were to be put on the market now, you can imagine that price tag being north of £130million-£140million.”
Cole Palmer has been fabulous this season for the London-based side, bagging six goals and four assists in 555 minutes spread across eight games. The Blues signed the Englishman from Manchester City for a reported fee of £42.5 million last summer.
Alan Shearer believes Chelsea star Cole Palmer is one of the best players in the Premier League
Alan Shearer believes Cole Palmer has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the last 12 months. The forward has been one of the standout players in the division since he moved to Stamford Bridge from the reigning champions.
Palmer has played 4168 minutes for the English giants, bagging 31 goals and 19 assists across 53 games. His impact has impressed the former Newcastle United goal machine, who told Betfair via the Mirror:
“It's hard to argue with Jamie Carragher who said Cole Palmer has been the best player in the Premier League over the last 12/13 months. But then Phil Foden won Player of the Season last year, so he did something special as well.
"Having said that, Phil hasn't had a run of games yet this season so I wouldn't argue with what Jamie Carragher said necessarily, but there are several other contenders. Cole has been phenomenal and outstanding.”
Palmer has helped Chelsea to a fine start to the season and sees them seated fourth on the league standings after six games. The Blues are two points behind Arne Slot's Liverpool, who lead the table and could potentially mount a title charge later in the campaign.
