“He’s our last thought” - Carlo Ancelotti on concerns surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s form with Real Madrid
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken about concerns that have been raised surrounding Kylian Mbappe's form. Despite scoring on his debut for the Spanish giants in their UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, he has failed to score in three La Liga games.
Playing for a club as massive as Los Blancos will certainly come with a lot of pressure, particularly for forwards who have to find the net regularly. It also has not helped that Kylian Mbappe joined the club after a very lengthy transfer saga that spanned nearly five years. He arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) earlier this summer.
Much has been expected from the exciting FIFA World Cup winner, following his time at PSG. The 25-year-old scored 256 goals and provided 108 assists in 308 games, becoming the club's all-time top scorer. His lack of La Liga goals has raised some concerns about adaptation problems.
However, manager Carlo Ancelotti doesn't believe there is a real problem. Ahead of their match at home against Real Betis on September 1, the Italian tactician said (via MadridXtra on X):
"Adapting to Kylian Mbappe? He's our last thought. He's playing well, very dangerous in attack."
Ancelotti has spoken about Mbappe's lack of goals regularly in recent times, making it clear that it is not a cause for concern. He spoke about the Frenchman ahead of their 1-1 draw against Las Palmas (via 90min):
"The last goal Mbappe scored was 14 August [in the Supercup] and today is 28 August. That's two weeks. It isn't the time to worry. He isn't worried, and neither are we. Vinicius [Junior] hasn't scored in three games, and he doesn't look worried."
Real Madrid fans will still be hoping that Kylian Mbappe can return to his goalscoring ways in due course, with the season now in full swing.
Vinicius Junior speaks about playing alongside Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid
While Kylian Mbappe has yet to find the net, Vinicius Junior opened his scoring for the La Liga campaign in Real Madrid's draw against Las Palmas. He spoke about playing alongside Mbappe in a new interview with CNN, where he discussed his aims to make history at the Santiago Bernabeu.
After speaking about his hopes of winning the Ballon d'Or and hanging out with Brazilian legends like Ronaldo Nazario, he said:
“I love Mbappe’s style, I love how he plays, and the truth is that I’m very excited about what we can do during the season. He’s coming in after having scored so many goals, after winning so many titles.
"He’s arriving at the club he always dreamed to be in and where every player always dreamed to play for: Real Madrid."
The winger will be hoping that he and Mbappe can truly dominate European football with their speed and goalscoring qualities. While the Frenchman is yet to score a league goal, Vinicius will be looking forward to this situation changing soon.
