“He’s left-footed, I'm right-footed, but we can both score goals” - Chido Obi-Martin’s comment on Manchester United star resurfaces amid links
In-demand teenage star Chido Obi-Martin views fellow Dane Rasmus Hojlund as a role model amid links to transfer to Manchester United from Arsenal. The academy star is close to signing a scholarship with the Red Devils after impressing at Arsenal.
Obi-Martin first made the news when he scored seven goals in a 9-0 win for Arsenal's U-18 team against Norwich City. The 16-year-old finished the season with 32 goals in only 19 appearances, a hugely impressive tally given that he was playing two years up.
Arsenal offered schoolboy terms to Obi-Martin to remain at the club beyond the summer but the lanky teenager seems intent on moving elsewhere. Manchester United are one of the clubs looking to sign the Denmark U-17 international, and they have already had him visit their facilities.
Chido Obi-Martin sees Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund as a role model, as he revealed in a chat with Bold.dk earlier this year. He praised the 21-year-old for his quality as a footballer, hinting at a possible partnership. The Dane said:
“I really like Rasmus Højlund. He is strong and powerful, so you can learn a lot from him. At the start, he didn’t score that much for United, but now he has really found his form. He is left-footed, I am right-footed, but we can both score goals.”
Obi-Martin is one of the most spoken-about youngsters in English football due to the amount of interest his transfer has generated. Clubs from outside England, such as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, have tried to tempt him with professional terms but he seems intent on remaining in England.
