“He’s been outstanding at Manchester City and Liverpool” - Ex-Arsenal forward backs Raheem Sterling to impress at the Emirates
David Bentley believes Arsenal's summer loan signing, Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling, is a great addition to the squad. The pundit has backed the 29-year-old forward to shine at the Emirates.
The Gunners secured Sterling's services this summer on a season-long loan deal from the Blues. Arsenal's decision to pursue the England international has been questioned after his underwhelming performances for Chelsea.
Sterling managed just 19 goals and 12 assists in 81 games acrosscompetitions over the last two seasons at Chelsea. However, former Arsenal forward Bentley believes Sterling still has something to offer and will add great depth to their attack.
He told Tribal Football:
“He's a great addition. He's got a great attitude; he's a productive player and he’s always going to travel with the ball. He's still only 29, which is incredible. They've now got Saka, Trossard, Martinelli and now Sterling.
"That's as good as anybody's got if you if you're looking at a forward line. They've got four players that can really make a difference, and they're all honest players that will just keep going and they're productive.”
Drawing attention to Sterling's time at former clubs Liverpool and Manchester City, Bentley added:
“Football's fickle, innit? Not many people understand what’s going on at Chelsea and the influx of so many players. Having 45 top players is a difficult job for any manager. But Sterling's been outstanding at Manchester City.
"He's been outstanding at Liverpool, the top clubs in the country, so he knows how to win matches and having that experience in the dressing room is only going to be a positive, not least for the other young players.”
Chelsea next face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday (September 14) while the Gunners take on Tottenham Hotspur a day later..
"Sometimes players need to blame themselves" - Former Arsenal star sends message to Raheem Sterling over Chelsea stint
Former Arsenal and Chelsea star William Gallas believes Raheem Sterling has no one but himself to blame for the predicament he found himself in at Stamford Bridge.
The England international completed his switch to the Emirates after new Blues boss Enzo Maresca made it clear that he won't receive any game time this season.
Gallas, though, added that Sterling's performances warranted it (via Metro):
"Sometimes players need to blame themselves when things don’t work out at their club. Raheem Sterling was in the situation that he was at Chelsea because he didn’t perform for two years.
"He didn’t score or create enough goals, and the new manager would’ve watched him and made the decision that he doesn’t want him in his squad. That's not the manager’s fault."
On Sterling's loan move to Arsenal, though, he added that the former City man is going to enjoy his stint at the Emirates.
