"He’s a real leader in the team" - Manchester United star heaps praises on Casemiro after pre-season clash against Arsenal
Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer has heaped praise on Casemiro. He stated that the Brazilian is one of the best in his position, and he has learned a lot from the midfielder.
Speaking to MUTV after the game against Arsenal, Collyer was quizzed about playing with Casemiro. He was quick to admit that he learns a lot from the former Real Madrid star and said:
"It's so valuable, he's one of the best ever in that position, it's great for someone like myself to learn from him. Even just to watch him in training and have him next to me, talking to me and always helping me out, as well as the other lads. He's a real leader in the team."
When asked about his own performance against Arsenal, the youngster replied:
"I thought I had an okay game [against Arsenal]. There were things I could have done better but it's great to experience a game like today and I can take it into the next game and even into training tomorrow."
Arsenal won 2-1 against Manchester United in the pre-season friendly thanks to goals form Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Rasmus Hojlund had scored the opening goal of the game before going off with an injury.
Casemiro keen on staying at Manchester United
Casemiro was blasted by Jamie Carragher after his poor performance at Crystal Palace in May. The pundit urged the Manchester United star to leave the club and move to the MLS or Saudi Pro League.
However, the Brazilian midfielder hit back and said:
"I guess people end up talking about the age factor, but it's been proven. Recently, our friend Thiago Silva, at the age of 39 coming here and showing that, yes, you can play. The previous Ballon d'Or winners were over 34. These are people who analyse football well, who see what's happening, who know what's happening, analysing not the age."
He added:
"But I'm well, I'm happy, living every day I get to play here. As I usually say, Man United gave me what I wanted. This joy of being able to enjoy the game, enjoy the Premier League. So, I'm happy to be here at Man United and enjoying the game."
Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2022. He has been a regular in the starting XI, but has lost his pace and seemed to struggle in the 2023-24 season.
