“He’s still playing at real high level” - Lionel Messi labelled ‘best player in the world right now’ by England forward

Bayern Munich frontman Harry Kane has picked Lionel Messi as the best player in the world currently. The Englishman joined Bayern Munich in 2023 after spending over 13 years at Tottenham Hotspur (2010-2023), where he recorded 280 goals and 61 assists in 435 senior games across competitions.

The debate over the greatest player in the world has dominated the football discourse for eternity, with several stars staking their claim. Despite nearing the end of his illustrious career, Lionel Messi continues to dominate football with match-winning displays for both club and country.

The Argentine superstar is having a brilliant season despite being bogged down by several injuries. Messi has recorded 22 goals and 12 assists in 22 games for Inter Miami across competitions this season. He won the Supporters' Shield with the Herons and helped them finish the MLS group stages with 74 points - the most amassed by a team after the MLS group stages in history.

The talismanic Argentine also captained La Albiceleste in their second consecutive Copa America win in July.

In a recent video interview with Goal (via AlbicelesteTalk on X), Harry Kane picked Lionel Messi as the greatest player in the world. The Bavarian marksman said:

"Who is the best player in the world right now? Lionel Messi. He's had a fantastic Copa America again and he is still playing at real high level."

Spanish publication Marca recently named Messi the greatest player of all time, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Maradona, and Alfredo Di Stefano.

On Saturday (October 19), FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that Lionel Messi's Inter Miami will compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as the host nation's team. The Fort Lauderdale outfit will host the opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup which will feature the top 32 clubs from across the world.

FIFA announced their decision after Inter Miami's 6-2 win over New England Revolution at the Chase Stadium on October 19. The diminutive Argentine entered the pitch in the 57th minute and scored a hattrick in just 11 minutes (78', 81', and 89').

Messi has won the FIFA Club World Cup on three occasions with Barcelona (2010, 2012 and 2016). Despite being at the tail-end of his career, few would bet against the Inter Miami superstar who is showing no signs of slowing down even at 37.
