"He's way too good to be a bench player" "Powerhouse display" - Fans hail Liverpool star for his performance in 3-1 win over AC Milan

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to praise Cody Gakpo after he was instrumental in the Reds' Champions League win over AC Milan on Tuesday night (September 17). The English giants won 3-1 at the San Siro to start their European journey under Arne Slot on a winning note.

Gakpo regularly caused problems for the hosts. The 25-year-old constantly ran down the left flank, with the Milan defenders having a tough time dealing with him. The Dutchman completed four of his seven dribbles and put both of his shots on target.

Gakpo was also solid in defense as he won seven of his 11 duels and made a tackle without committing any fouls.

Although Gakpo failed to get on the scoresheet, he provided the assist for the Reds' third goal scored by Dominik Szoboszlai. Liverpool fans were thoroughly pleased with the forward's performance as they took to social media to laud him.

"Gakpo was excellent tonight." a fan was full of praise.
"Gakpo out on the left is a truly wonderful footballer," another fan was happy.
"Gakpo was really good today but Grabenberch has really caught the eye again, he's been excellent," another fan praised two Dutch players.
"Gakpo has been unreal man," a fourth said.
"Gakpo is in a league of his own tonight. Powerhouse display," a fifth added.
"Gakpo played so well tonight, he's way too good to be a bench player," another claimed.

Liverpool dominate AC Milan in 3-1 win at San Siro

It was a masterclass performance from Liverpool as the English giants visited the legendary San Siro and handed the hosts a 3-1 beating. While the possession of the ball was fairly even (49-51 in favor of Liverpool), the Reds were easily the more clinical on the night.

AC Milan started well, with Christian Pulisic scoring in the third minute. However, they struggled to continue impressing in the final third, taking only eight shots, with only two being on target. For the Merseysiders, the situation was much different.

Their defenders combined to score the equalizer and the second goal, with Ibrahima Konate (23rd minute) and Virgil van Dijk (41st minute) finding the back of the net through headers. Dominik Szoboszlai completed the scoring in the 67th minute. The Reds had 23 shots on goal with 11 on target.

The visitors were also better on the ball, making 399 passes (87% accuracy), while Milan had 372 passes (83% accuracy).
