"He could not walk comfortably yesterday" - Turkiye coach provides fitness update on Real Madrid star Arda Guler after Nations League clash
Turkiye boss Vincenzo Montella has provided an update on the fitness of Real Madrid ace Arda Guler following their draw against Wales on September 7. The Euro 2024 quarterfinalists began their UEFA Nations League campaign by visiting Wales, where neither side managed to score.
Teenage sensation Arda Guler was one of his country's stars at the Euros in Germany and has been impressive for his club. The 19-year-old was handed a start against Wales but had to come off in the 90th minute with a visible limp.
Vincenzo Montella spoke with the media about the condition of the teenage midfielder ahead of the match against Iceland on Monday, September 9. The Italian manager reported that the youngster had difficulty walking on the day after the game, but his condition will be closely monitored.
“Arda Güler got a knock at the end of the match. He could not walk comfortably yesterday. Even if he does not train with the team today, we will evaluate if he can start or come in as a substitute,” Montella said (via Madrid Xtra).
Guler received a heavy blow below his knee just before the game reached its conclusion, and he was replaced by Irfan Kahveci. With Turkiye's game against Iceland set to take place on Monday, Real Madrid will be keeping a close eye on the situation of the youngster.
Arda Guler didn't fully enjoy his first season (2023-24) at the Santiago Bernabeu as injuries delayed his debut until January. He made just 12 appearances across competitions, scoring six goals. The talented midfielder is set for a bigger role in the side this season, and manager Carlo Ancelotti will be hopeful that he has avoided any serious issues.
Real Madrid are already in a bit of a fix with injuries, as they are currently without up to seven first-team players. Their midfield has been ravaged by injuries, with the duo of Luka Modric and Federico Valverde the only fit senior midfielders at the club.
Real Madrid tried to terminate contract of defender - Reports
Real Madrid made an attempt to terminate the contract of out-of-favor centre-back Jesus Vallejo in the summer transfer window, as per Relevo. The Spanish giants were keen to part ways with the Spanish defender, who does not feature in the plans of manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Vallejo moved to the Santiago Bernabeu as a highly-rated prospect from Real Zaragoza in 2015 for around €5 million. Now 27, the defender has failed to establish himself at the club and has spent multiple seasons out on various unsuccessful loans. He's made just 31 appearances for Los Blancos.
Despite failing to sign a new defender this summer, Relevo reports that Real Madrid offered to pay Vallejo out of the last year of his contract. The defender refused their offer and chose to remain with the club for the final year of his deal. With the injuries to Eder Militao and youngster Jacobo Ramon in the last week, Vallejo appears to be an option for the club alongside Antonio Rudiger.
