"He will give everything on the pitch" – Emmanuel Petit urges Arsenal to sign ex-Manchester United star seeking 'revenge'
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has claimed that his former club should launch a move to sign former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba next year.
Since departing United on a Bosman move in 2022, Pogba's career has been on a downward spiral. He missed most of the 2022-23 term at his current club Juventus owing to multiple injuries and received a four-year ban for failing a drug test earlier in September 2023.
However, the former Manchester United man had his four-year ban reduced to just 18 months following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner can play again next March.
Speaking recently to Jeffbet, Petit shared his thoughts on Pogba's current situation and wished for an amicable return to football for the right-footed midfielder. He said (h/t Metro):
"Paul Pogba will become a free transfer at 32-years-old. I can't remember the last time I saw him smiling. Pogba wants revenge, he wants to prove to himself and fans around the world that he's not finished yet. France's team have missed him. He's apparently working very hard to get back to match fitness. I know Pogba's personality, I know he'll do anything to come back on the pitch."
Petit, who played for Arsenal between 1997 and 2000, added:
"Honestly, Arsenal should 100% gamble on signing Paul Pogba. He will give everything on the pitch. It will take him a few weeks to get fully fit, but he will be so eager to wash his name. There is a motivation that is priceless to a manager like Mikel Arteta."
Revealing why Pogba could shine at Arsenal, Petit concluded:
"Pogba fits the Arsenal midfield perfectly, he's tall, strong and very creative. We all know how good a happy Pogba is, he needs love and to be given confidence, I think Arteta and Arsenal can offer this to him."
Manchester United set to appoint new boss
According to The Independent, Sporting CP have asserted that Manchester United are willing to pay manager Ruben Amorim's release clause of £8.3 million. The ex-Benfica midfielder is keen to join the Red Devils.
Amorim, 39, is allegedly set to be appointed as Manchester United's new manager before their Premier League home contest against Chelsea on November 3. Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee the Old Trafford side's EFL Cup clash against Leicester City this Wednesday.
Earlier this Monday, United fired Erik ten Hag from his role.
