"He will need a surgery" - Doctor says Kylian Mbappe could miss Euro 2024 if he broke his nose in win over Austria
Spanish doctor Angel Martin has suggested Kylian Mbappe could miss the rest of France's Euro 2024 campaign after breaking his nose. He sustained a nasty nose injury in a 1-0 win against Austria tonight (June 17).
Spanish doctor Martin told Radio MARCA that Mbappe's nose injury could mean he spends 2-3 weeks recovering without moving his nose. That would most likely rule him out of the rest of Euro 2024:
"If Kylian Mbappe has broken his nose, he will need a surgery and he might spend 2-3 weeks without moving his nose."
The 25-year-old took a big blow to the nose in the 87th minute after a collison with Austria's Kevin Danso and was left bloodied. Les Bleus' captain was forced off with Olivier Giroud coming on in his place in the 90th minute.
Didier Deschamps touched on Mbappe's injury after France's win against Austria in Group D. He said (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano):
"Yes, Kylian Mbappe has probably broken his nose."
Diario AS reports that Mbappe could wear a mask for the rest of Euro 2024 in Germany. The Real Madrid summer signing enjoyed a fine evening before his injury, his brilliant cross was put into the back of his own net by defender Maximillian Wober. He also completed three of six dribble attempts, won six of 10 ground duels and both of his aerial duels.
Mbappe was booked after getting back on the pitch and sitting down during a farcical situation. Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano allowed Austria to make a sub but not France.

Roy Keane was unimpressed by Kylian Mbappe's antics when nursing his bloodied nose in the dying embers. The iconic former Manchester United midfielder felt his yellow card was warranted, telling ITV Sport:
"I don't like to see this, this is out of order and he has been [obviously] told by the manager to go back. He has had his treatment and then he has come back, I know players make mistakes but to go and sit on the pitch, he deserved that yellow card. I don't like to see it."
Referee Manzano's poor man management led to France continuing with 10 men. It was a strange situation that spiralled out of control at Dusseldorf Arena on Monday night.
France will turn their attention to their second Euro 2024 game against the Netherlands on Friday (June 21). It's still unknown whether Mbappe will be available for that game. He'll almost certainly be wearing a mask if he does play.
