"Hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done" – Bruno Fernandes reacts as Manchester United sack Erik ten Hag
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has opened up on his time under ex-Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag after the tactician was sacked this Monday (October 28).
Following the Red Devils' 2-1 Premier League loss at West Ham United at London Stadium earlier this Sunday (October 27), Ten Hag was told to depart the club. He guided the Old Trafford side to just four wins in 14 matches across all competitions in the ongoing season.
After the development, Fernandes took to Instagram to share his honest thoughts on his experience playing under the former Ajax manager. The Manchester United captain wrote:
"Thanks for everything boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future. Even knowing the last period hasn't been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club!"
Fernandes, 30, has struggled for form since the start of the ongoing 2024-25 term. He has yet to find the back of the net and laid out five assists in 13 games across all competitions for the Old Trafford outfit.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have reportedly earmarked some replacements for Ten Hag. They have held secret talks with former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, and Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim in the past week.
The Red Devils, who are currently 14th in the Premier League standings with just 11 points from nine games, have also added Thomas Frank to their shortlist. They were in talks to hire the Brentford boss at the start of the season, so could appoint him as their manager.
Manchester United name interim manager
Taking to X, acclaimed reporter Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United have named Ruud van Nistelrooy as their interim manager following Erik ten Hag's sacking. He wrote:
"Understand Ruud van Nistelrooy will be Man United interim manager, as exclusively revealed earlier today. He's the immediate replacement for Erik ten Hag, decision made internally."
Nistelrooy, who joined his former team as Ten Hag's assistant earlier this summer, has coaching experience at PSV Eindhoven. He guided the Dutch club to 34 wins and eight defeats in 50 overall outings.
The former Real Madrid striker will be in Manchester United's dugout in their EFL Cup last-16 contest against Leicester City this Wednesday.
