“Hopefully I have an option to say goodbye” – Liverpool man announces he will leave Anfield this summer
Arthur Melo, who is currently on loan at Liverpool, has stated that he will return to Juventus in the summer. The Reds signed Arthur from Juventus on a season-long loan with an option to buy last summer. However, his injury issues and poor form have seen the midfielder make just four appearances across competitions this season.
He has now announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and also acknowledged the opportunity to learn from manager Jurgen Klopp.
He said (via Football Italia):
"Hopefully I have an option to say goodbye. The fact of being able to train with someone like him always gives you a lot as a player and I’m sure it’s useful for what’s to come because you learn a lot from him."
He added:
“Now that I’m recovered, I would obviously like to be able to play more, but I can understand that the situation now is different from what happened when I arrived because at that time the team had some needs and now it has others, but I have the peace of mind that when I talk to them and they tell me that no one has any complaints with me, quite the opposite."
Arthur pointed out that his contract with Juventus expires in 2025, saying:
"I have two years left at Juventus. I still haven’t spoken about it with my agent, family, or Juventus. I’ll be back because I have two years left; there is mutual respect between us.”
Arthur Melo heaps praise on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp
While his stay at Liverpool has been disappointing in terms of playing time, Arthur Melo has been impressed by Jurgen Klopp. He heaped praise on the German manager and shared his affection for the whole club.
The Brazilian midfielder said:
“Since I arrived, [Jurgen] Klopp has treated me really well. It is an honour for me to work with Jurgen. He is one of the best coaches in the world, he has always spoken well of me, he is someone incredible and the treatment has always been really good, elegant and special."
He added:
"Also all of Liverpool in general, they have treated me great and I only have good words for them and a very special affection.”
Arthur will leave Liverpool and return to Juventus in the summer. However, as per Football Italia, he is likely to be sold from the Italian club as well. He is hoping to move to La Liga, where he played with Barcelona before his move to the Bianconeri in 2020.
