“Hopefully they’re going to get the same results as me today" - Carlos Alcaraz sends support to Spain ahead of Euro 2024 semi-final

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has sent a message of support to the Spanish national team as they prepare to face France in the Euro 2024 semifinals. The two heavyweights will face off at the Allianz Arena on July 9.

The Spaniards have won all five of their matches in the tournament so far, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two. Their upcoming opponents, on the other hand, have struggled in front of goal and failed to put away their chances. Les Bleus have scored just three goals in the tournament so far and won just two of their five matches in normal time.

After Carlos Alcaraz defeated Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, he sent support to La Roja, saying (via Yahoo):

"Hopefully they’re going to get the same results as me today. I didn’t think about it until now. Yeah, I won in the tennis part, so hopefully the Spanish team is going to win the football part."

Alcaraz added that he has a good relationship with Spain's captain and starting striker Alvaro Morata.

"Yeah, I have a really good relationship with a few players of the team. In particularly, with Alvaro Morata. He’s a really good friend. I know they are supporting me when I’m playing matches or I’m playing tournaments. It’s my turn," Alcaraz said.

Carlos Alcaraz will face America's Tommy Paul on the same day as Spain's Euro 2024 semifinal, which made him add:

“Hopefully on Tuesday we are not going to play at the same time, but let’s see. Hopefully I will be able to see a little bit from the match.”

Spain boss hails squad after Euro 2024 quarterfinal win over Germany

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente praised his squad for their impressive performance against Germany in the quarterfinals of the competition. The two teams played out an evenly contested match, which went late into extra-time before Mikel Merino scored the winning goal.

The boss could not hold back his joy after the game, saying about his squad (via Eurosport):

"I'm proud of this group of players, such a committed group of players, who are an example for our country, for our society, and for any sportsmen and women who want to be competitive and want to improve every day in order to try and be a bit better every day."

De la Fuente will be hoping Spain can take that drive into the next stage when they face France in the semifinals.
