“I blame him for this loss”, “Made them lose” - Fans slam ‘terrible’ Germany star after Euro 2024 exit
Fans on X have slammed Germany forward Kai Havertz after he missed two big chances in their 2-1 quarter-final loss to Spain at Euro 2024. The hosts have been eliminated from the tournament following their clash at the MHPArena (Friday, July 5).
Havertz had a good chance to break the deadlock for Die Mannschaft in the 21st minute but could only head Joshua Kimmich's cross straight at Unai Simon. He then did well to get past Robert Le Normand 14 minutes later but was denied again by Simon.
Spain took the lead in the 51st minute after Dani Olmo finished well into the bottom-left corner. Niclas Fullkrug was unfortunate to strike the post in the 77th minute before Havertz squandered Germany's biggest chance of the game six minutes later.
Simon executed a poor goal-kick which fell into the path of Havertz. The Arsenal star made a good run and attempted to chip the former after seeing him off his line. Despite the goal being wide open, his effort went over the bar. Florian Wirtz spared his blushes in the 89th minute, scoring a brilliant goal to send the game to extra time.
Mikel Merino broke German hearts in the 119th minute, leaping high into the air to score an exceptional header. This ensured Spain progressed to the final four of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 win.
Fans blasted Havertz for his performance in the Euro 2024 QF. The 25-year-old completed 17 out of his 22 passes with an accuracy of 77 percent. He created zero chances, missed two big chances, and lost seven duels.
