"I am very clear and I will tell you like it is" - Ruben Amorim on talks with Van Nistelrooy over club legend's Manchester United future

Manchester United's new head coach Ruben Amorim has shared he will speak with Ruud van Nistelrooy about the Dutchman's future at the club. The legendary striker returned to Old Trafford as an assistant coach in the summer, and when Erik ten Hag was sacked, he took over as interim manager.

In his four matches in charge, van Nistelrooy has led the club to three wins and a draw across competitions. However, the Old Trafford hierarchy did not wait for him to impress them, instead moving swiftly to sign Amorim from Sporting CP.

Van Nistelrooy has already spoken about the uncertainty around his job as an assistant coach. While the Dutch coach took on the role under ten Hag, Amorim will likely have his preferred assistant coaches already.

Van Nistelrooy told BBC Sport (via Mirror) about his future:

"I really enjoyed [being caretaker], it's been a short but amazing period. We are in an uncertain position but we tried to do our jobs and help the club which is important... We will learn what the further plan is now."

Ruben Amorim was also asked about Ruud van Nistelrooy's future at Manchester United, with the Portuguese set to bring in his own staff. However, he did not provide a direct response, instead claiming that talks would be held.

Speaking to the press after he led Sporting CP to a 4-2 win over Braga on Sunday, November 10, Amorim explained (via Mirror):

"A legend of the club. He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow. Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let's wait until tomorrow."

Time will tell if van Nistelrooy can continue in a notable role under Amorim, following his impressive term as an interim boss.

Ruud van Nistelrooy reveals interest in Manchester United managerial role

Ruud van Nistelrooy has claimed that he would be interested in taking on the permanent managerial role at Old Trafford if the opportunity arose in the future. He has already proven his ability to lead the Red Devils to win games, which will certainly be noteworthy to the club hierarchy.

While they have moved for Ruben Amorim at this time, van Nistelrooy shared his interest in managing Manchester United one day. He said (via BBC):

"Yeah, of course. I thought this through well when I made the decision to come to United as an assistant manager or assistant coach... I had clear ambitions to manage. I made the decision to sign a two-year deal as an assistant and I'm still in that frame of mind to stay in that capacity."

In the meantime, though, the immediate future looks uncertain for van Nistelrooy, with Amorim starting his job as Manchester United's head coach on Monday, November 11.
