"I didn’t hesitate for a second" - Liverpool target makes bold claims after sealing PSG move
Reported Liverpool target Willian Pacho has sealed a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Eintracht Frankfurt. The defender shared his thoughts on joining the Parisians, saying that there was no hesitation on his part.
The Reds were linked with a move for Pacho earlier this summer as they look for a replacement for Joel Matip, who left as a free agent. However, the Ecuadorian defender has joined PSG for a reported fee of €40 million plus add-ons, signing a five-year contract.
After his announcement on Friday (August 9), Pacho said (via PSG Talk):
“This is a huge club, and I’m really excited to be part of this family now. The project is ambitious, the way they work, the coach—everything about it appeals to me! When the club reached out, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I’m confident that being here will help me grow both as a person and a player, and I’ll give it my all!”
Pacho made 44 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, having joined them from Royal Antwerp only last summer.
Liverpool, meanwhile, remain the only club in the Premier League yet to make a signing this summer. While Joel Matip earlier this summer, captain Virgil van Dijk's contract is set to expire next summer. Hence, they will hope to add at least one defender this summer as a potential successor for the 33-year-old.
Emmanuel Petit likens Arsenal's progress to Liverpool's under Jurgen Klopp
The Gunners have challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title two seasons in a row now but failed on both occasions. They lost by five points in the 2022-23 season despite leading the table for 248 days and then lost by two points last season on the final day.
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit believes the Gunners are progressing very well under Mikel Arteta. He likened it to Jurgen Klopp's project at Liverpool, which took some time to get going but produced significant results. Petit told Mirror:
“Something really important, in the transfer market, the way they have been working since Arteta arrived with Edu, I think they are doing a great job.
“That reminds me what Klopp did when he took over Liverpool, [fitting] pieces after pieces. He had a vision of how he wanted the team to play and changed position after position. This is the way big clubs work. Real Madrid work in the same way. They [Arsenal] are in a good way and for Guardiola now, his main opponent is Arsenal.”
Jurgen Klopp took over Liverpool in 2015 and won his first trophy in 2019 - the UEFA Champions League. However, he consistently challenged Manchester City for the league title and also won in the 2019-20 season, among other honors.
