“I don’t follow records, the records follow me” - Cristiano Ronaldo sends emphatic message after breaking Saudi Pro League record
Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo shared his thoughts after setting a record for most goals in a Saudi Pro League season. Ronaldo did so with a brace as Luis Castro's side saw off Al-Ittihad 4-2 at home on Monday (May 27) in their final league game of the campaign.
The 39-year-old broke the deadlock in the third minute of first-half stoppage time before making it 2-0 midway through the second half. Abdulrahman Ghareeb put the hosts three goals to the good before Al-Ittihad pulled two goals back.
However, Castro's side confirmed the three points through a late Meshari Al-Nemer strike to close out their league campaign with a win. Meanwhile, Ronaldo put out a bullish message after rewriting the Saudi Pro League scoring record on the last dy of the season, posting on Instagram:
"I don't follow the records, the records follow me."
Ronaldo finished seven goals clear of Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic (28), who scored in the champions' 2-1 win at Al-Wehda to end the league campaign unbeaten, dropping points just thrice in 34 games.

It has been a fabulous first full season in Saudi Arabian football for Al-Nassr captain and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. With his second of the night on Monday, he hit 50 for the season.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has netted 44 times in 44 competitive games across competitions. He also struck six times in as many games in Al-Alami's victorious Arab Club Champions Cup campaign.
By top-scoring in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo created more history, becoming the first player to finish as the top scorer in four different leagues, as Al-Nassr scored 100 league goals for the first time.
The Portugal captain has won the top-scorer award in the Premier League (with Manchester United), La Liga (with Real Madrid) and Serie A (with Juventus). Despite his heroics, Al-Nassr fell 14 points short of Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League title race.
However, they have the chance to end the season with silverware, as the Saudi Pro League top-two lock horns in the King's Cup final on Friday (May 31) in Jeddah.
