“I don’t like to see this, this is out of order” - Roy Keane slams Kylian Mbappe for showing ‘no gamesmanship’ after broken nose in Euro 2024 clash

Manchester United legend Roy Keane slammed Kylian Mbappe's actions after the latter's injury against Austria on Monday, June 17. France won the match 1-0 to start their Euro 2024 campaign on a victorious note.

Towards the dying stages of the match, the new Real Madrid signing slammed his nose into the shoulder of defender Kevin Danso while going up for a header. In doing so, the Frenchman was left with a bloody nose and was treated immediately by his team's medical staff.

After making his way off the field, France boss Didier Deschamps was unable to make a substitution before play restarted. With his side temporarily playing with 10 men, Mbappe entered the pitch without the permission of referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

The former Paris Saint-Germain superstar then fell to the ground to halt play before eventually being replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 90th minute. Criticizing these actions for which Mbappe was booked, Keane told ITV (via Standard):

"He gets an injury, obviously it's frustrating he's gone back on the pitch. Whether he's trying to stop the play... but he's gone on to sit on the pitch. I don't like to see this, this is out of order. Listen whether he's been instructed by the manager to go back, he's obviously had treatment, he's come off."
"I don't mind he's gone back on the pitch. I know players can make mistakes. But to go back and sit on the pitch, he deserves that yellow card, I don't like to see it. No it's not (good sportsmanship)," he added.

France managed to see out the game as Maximillian Wober's 38th-minute own goal proved to be the difference.

Fellow pundit Gary Neville agreed with Roy Keane's comments about Kylian Mbappe's actions in France's Euro 2024 match against Austria.

"He'll look back and I think he'll be disappointed. I think he looks at Deschamps, and Deschamps has gone, 'get on'. I think he will feel like he let himself down," he said (via Standard).

Harsh words from pundits wouldn't be Didier Deschamps' most pressing concern, with uncertainty over Mbappe's availability for France's next match.

Up next for Les Bleus is a crucial match against the Netherlands on Friday night (June 21). After that, they face Poland to round off the group matches next Tuesday (June 25).
