"I don’t think they should go after Viktor Gyokeres" - Pundit urges Manchester United to spend £120million for England superstar
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has advised the club to sign Harry Kane instead of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker is heavily linked with the Red Devils following Ruben Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford.
Gyokeres has been outstanding for Sporting this season, registering 23 goals and four assists from 18 games so far. He could solve a lot of issues at Manchester United, who have struggled to score freely this campaign.
However, speaking to BoyleSports, Saha pointed out that Gyokeres could find it tough to deal with the pressure of playing for the Red Devils.
"It might be surprising, but I don’t think Man Utd should go after Viktor Gyokeres. I think he is a good player in an incredible run of form, even in the Champions League, but he won’t get the same luxuries as he does at Sporting. Sporting are not under the same pressure as Manchester United, it’s a completely different animal," said Saha.
Saha added that his former club should pay £120m for Harry Kane instead.
"Right now United have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and at times the pressure has looked to be a lot for them to handle too. It’s hard to find players who can do what Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland can do. United need to find players that can really hurt the opposition and are proven in doing so and that’s a big task," said Saha.
He continued:
"Manchester United have spent a lot of money and I don’t think Gyokeres is the answer. If you can spend £120million on Harry Kane then they should do it tomorrow, there are very few guarantees in football but that’s what a club like United needs."
Kane has scored 17 goals and set up nine more from 16 games across competitions for Bayern Munich. He is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2027.
How many goals have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored for Manchester United this season?
Manchester United have scored just 12 goals in 11 games in the Premier League this season. The Red Devils brought in Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this summer to address their goalscoring woes.
However, the Dutchman has been a disappointment so far, finding the back of the net just once in 17 games. Manchester United also have Rasmus Hojlund on their roster, but he has struggled as well.
The 21-year-old has scored twice in 12 games across competitions this season. Harry Kane would certainly be an upgrade on the duo and could transform the Red Devils' attack in an instant.
The Englishman spent most of his career with Tottenham Hotspur and has scored 213 times in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer has scored more goals than the 31-year-old in England's top flight. Harry Kane could be tempted to return to the UK and attempt to break Shearer's record.
