"I feel for you at this tournament" - Gary Lineker opens up on what he told England attacker after Euro 2024 final defeat

England legend Gary Lineker has opened up on his conversation with Anthony Gordon after the Three Lions' defeat against Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Gareth Southgate's side lost 2-1 to La Roja on July 14 to finish runners-up in the Euros for the second time in a row.

Lineker has revealed that he told Anthony Gordon after the game that he felt sorry for the Newcastle United star. He insisted that the 23-year-old deserved to play more in Euro 2024.

Insisting Gordon will get his chances for England in the years to come, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona striker said, as quoted by Express Sport:

"I saw Anthony Gordon after the game and I said to him briefly 'I feel for you at this tournament, I think you should have got more minutes,' and I went 'but don't worry, you will get more chances.'"

Gordon played just one minute of football for England throughout the Euro 2024, coming on as a late substitute against Slovenia in the group stage. He, however, enjoyed a brilliant season in the Premier League with Newcastle United.

The fleet-footed winger scored 12 goals and produced 11 assists in 48 appearances for Newcastle United last season. His exploits saw him heavily linked with an exit from St. James' Park with Liverpool being named as admirers.

Roy Keane offers his verdict after England's Euro 2024 final loss against Spain

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has said that the best team won after Spain's Euro 2024 win against England in the final. Gareth Southgate's side suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of La Furia Roja at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday, July 14.

Nico Willams' 47th-minute strike was canceled out by Chelsea star Cole Palmer in the 73rd minute. Mikel Oyarzabal then scored a late winner for Luis de La Fuente's side. After the game, Roy Keane insisted that Spain were the best team in the tournament and deserved their victory. He said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News:

"The best team won tonight. They [Spain] were the best team throughout the tournament. I think tonight [England] lacked quality. They've lacked quality throughout the tournament. It was probably fight and desire, options off the bench that got them to this final."

England have now lost two back-to-back Euro finals having lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy and the Euro 2024 final against Spain.
