“I would find that hard to believe” - Jaap Stam delivers verdict on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United ahead of Ruben Amorim arrival
Former Manchester United player Jaap Stam has claimed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will leave the club. He believes that his former teammate will not remain as an assistant to incoming manager Ruben Amorim.
Speaking to Metro via BetMGM, Stam stated that Amorim will be bringing his own staff, making Nistelrooy just another assistant at the club. He feels that the Dutchman is too good to be in that role:
"A man like Ruud, coming in as the legend he is, he needs to have a certain position within the club, where people look up to him and one where he can make a difference. Amorin will probably want to bring in his own assistants, people he has worked with over the years.
"If that happens, is Ruud becoming just another assistant, one of the coaches? Is that right position for Ruud? I don't think so, I would find that hard to believe, because Ruud has more in his locker than being just one of the coaches for Manchester United. It will be up to Ruud of course but I can't see him doing that under new management."
Ruud van Nistelrooy was the interim manager at Manchester United for matches after the sacking of Erik ten Hag. He finished unbeaten, winning three and drawing to Chelsea, and has confirmed that he wants to stay and help the club.
Manchester United told they should have appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy over Ruben Amorim by former player
Former Manchester United player Jose Kleberson spoke to UniBet earlier this month and claimed that the club should have appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new manager. He believes that the Dutchman knows the club's culture and would have helped them get back to the top.
He said (via GOAL):
"I would like to see Ruud be the manager of United, 100 percent – he has a passion for the club. He has a lot of stuff from Ferguson, and I know that they have spoken a lot from being there together.
"The biggest thing is that Ruud knows the culture of the club, that Ferguson helped put in place. He knows the club, and can make change and the players will listen to him more because he was a great player and goal scorer in the history of the club.
"Ruud would know how to play the locker room, how the guys are feeling, and whilst I love Amorim as a young coach and the amazing things that he has done at Sporting, I really would have loved to have seen how Ruud would do as manager."
Manchester United have paid €11 million to appoint Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP. The Portuguese manager will be arriving in Manchester this week and his first match will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
