“I finished my first season at Real Madrid with 12 goals” - Ex-Real Madrid star speaks up on Kylian Mbappe’s criticism since PSG switch
Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes has backed Kylian Mbappe to get back to his best. He believes that the Frenchman is taking time to settle and that fans are spoiled by the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star scoring a ton of goals every season.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Morientes recalled that he finished as the top scorer at the club after notching just 12 goals in his first season. He believes that Mbappe is bound to do well (via Madrid Universal):
“He has 10 or 11 goals. I finished my first season at Real Madrid with 12 goals in total and I was the team’s top scorer. Mbappe’s problem is that he has spoiled us, but I’m sure his best form will come.”
Carlo Ancelotti also backed his forward to get the goals soon. He said (via GOAL):
"It's much more than 1%. He is not at his best level, but you have to give him time to adapt. He has scored 10 goals and is working to do better. I haven't spoken to him. It was a complicated match – even, fought, competitive. When we equalised we could think of having control and small details penalised us tonight."
"We missed the penalty. I don't have to evaluate a player's game because of a penalty that is sometimes scored and sometimes missed. Obviously he is sad, disappointed, but we have to continue. Vinicius has usually taken a lot of penalties and all of them are good. The ones who take penalties are three: Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius."
Kylian Mbappe has scored 12 goals since moving to Real Madrid for free from PSG. He has scored nine times in the league, twice in the UEFA Champions League and once in the UEFA Super Cup.
Real Madrid manager admits Kylian Mbappe is facing an injury issue
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe's injury is not serious. However, he is unsure if the striker will be fit for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup next week.
He said:
“Mbappe isn't anything very serious. He won't be there for the match [against Vallecano], [but] he'll travel to Qatar and see if he can play part of the [Intercontinental Cup] without risk.”
Kylian Mbappe has scored four times in the last six matches but has missed a couple of penalties and has been under the spotlight. He has missed the France matches in the last two international breaks due to workload management and injury issues.
