"I hope he continues at this level" - Manchester City midfielder Rodri heaps praise on Chelsea star for performances at EURO 2024
Manchester City star Rodri has admitted that Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has impressed him with his performances at the Euro 2024. The Spanish midfielder is in awe of his teammate's form on the international stage this year.
Luis de la Fuente's side have been in exceptional form at the 2024 European Championships, winning every single fixture so far. They topped the Group B standings with nine points and secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Georgia in the Round of 16.
Rodri and Cucurella have each played a key role for Spain at the Euro 2024, featuring in three of their four fixtures. The pair missed Spain's 1-0 win over Albania in the group stages. Cucurella was rested while Rodri served a one-game suspension after receiving two yellow cards in as many games.
Rodri has hailed the Chelsea star for the level he's shown at the tournament for his country. When asked which player has surprised him the most in Spain's squad this year, the Manchester City midfielder told El Partidazo de Cope (as quoted by Metro):
"I know them all but… the level that Cucurella is showing. I already knew him but the level he is showing in a context like this in a Euro Cup… he is helping us a lot, especially defensively, the character he has. I am loving it and I hope he continues at this level."
Marc Cucurella registered 26 appearances across competitions for Chelsea last season, recording a goal and two assists.

Marc Cucurella has revealed that he has tried convincing Spain star Nico Williams to join the west London outfit this summer. The 25-year-old left-back believes Williams would be a great addition to the dressing room at Stamford Bridge.
Williams was in excellent form for Athletic Bilbao last season. The young winger scored eight goals and provided 19 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions last term.
He has impressed so far at the Euro 2024 as well, scoring and assisting in Spain's 4-1 win over Georgia to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. Cucurella has lavished praise on the 21-year-old and wishes to see him at Chelsea next season.
The Spaniard said (via GOAL):
"He is a great player, he is bringing out all his potential. It is a source of pride that he is on our team, that he is our teammate, and with players like him, everything is easier. He would be a great signing, but it all depends on what he wants. I've been telling him to sign for Chelsea… In the end, everything depends on him. He is very young, with a lot of experience. I think he will be a great player."
Spain will face Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Friday, July 5, at the MHPArena in Stuttgart.
