“I know people call him Cold Palmer, but for me he is beans” - Chelsea star explains why he gave unique nickname to Cole Palmer
Chelsea keeper Djordje Petrovic has revealed the nickname he has for teammate Cole Palmer. The English forward has been phenomenal in his debut season with the Blues and has a popular nickname, “Cold Palmer” because of his trademark celebration.
The 22-year-old joined the club from reigning champions Manchester City last summer. He has quickly established himself as one of the best players at the club. His impressive debut contribution of 22 goals and 11 assists in 34 league games marks him out as a dangerous asset for Chelsea.
Petrovic, however, revealed he has a different nickname for his teammate based on their lunch routine, telling the west London side's media team:
“Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot. I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans. I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me he is Beans”
Both players will be at the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 and will face each other in their first game on June 16. The Serbian Petrovic aka Beetroot will hope he can deny the English Cole Palmer aka Beans.
Cole Palmer and his fantastic debut season with Chelsea
One of the best bits of business Chelsea has done was signing Cole Palmer from Manchester City for a few that could go up to £42 million last summer. The Blues tied the English to a mammoth seven-year deal and he instantly proved to be an inspirational signing.
The forward was the second-highest goalscorer in the league, only bettered by his former teammate Erling Haaland, who scored 27 goals. Overall, the Englishman registered 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 games for Chelsea.
His performances almost single-handedly took the Blues to Europe and no other player at the club came close to his put in the league. Palmer has rightfully been included in the England squad heading to the European championships in Germany as a reward.
If he maintains his fantastic form, the Three Lions have a fantastic chance of living up to their pre-competition billing as one of the favorites.
