“I learned German” - Jose Mourinho reveals he was supposed to become Bundesliga giants’ manager in 2020
Jose Mourinho has revealed he was set to become Borussia Dortmund's coach in 2020. Mourinho emerged as a serious target for the Bundesliga giants after Lucien Favre was sacked. Dortmund appointed Edin Terzic as interim boss instead, with Marco Rose later taking charge on a permanent basis.
Rose was sacked in 2021, with Terzic replacing him. Terzic has subsequently parted ways with the club and former Real Madrid and Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has taken charge.
Mourinho's potential appointment, however, could have been interesting. The Portuguese said last week (via Get German Football News):
"When I was about to go to Borussia Dortmund a few years ago, I learned German, it wasn't easy, but I tried."
Jose Mourinho was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur until April 2021. He took charge of AS Roma later that year. Mourinho helped the club reach the Europa League final in 2022-23.
The Portuguese parted ways with the Serie A club last year. He has now returned to coaching by taking charge of Turkish league side Fenerbahce.
Jose Mourinho wants Joao Felix at Fenerbahce: Reports
As per SPORT, Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Joao Felix for Fenerbahce. The Portuguese winger's loan spell at Barcelona has ended. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances across competitions in 2023-24.
Hansi Flick reportedly wants Felix to continue at Barcelona. La Blaugrana's financial situation, however, could make matters complicated. Felix is also reportedly keen to continue at the Catalan club.
Manchester United have also been tipped as a potential destination for Felix. The Portuguese, who spent half of the 2022-23 season at Chelsea, is reportedly not interested in returning to the Premier League.
Fenerbahce is reportedly looking to pounce on the opportunity. Felix isn't expected to continue at Atletico and his future hangs in the balance. Fans will keep a keen eye on how the situation unfolds.
