“I’ll kill you outside, wherever you want” - West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez allegedly threatens Chelsea superstar after heated altercation
West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez allegedly threatened Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez after a heated altercation during the two sides' Premier League match-up (September 21).
The Blues ran riot at the London Stadium, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice and Cole Palmer adding another to round out a comprehensive 3-0 victory. However, the game wasn't as simple as the scoreline suggested, with the two sides engaging in tough physical duels and verbal altercations.
In the second half, Alvarez was shown a yellow card by referee Sam Barrott for his challenge on Palmer. Fernandez was fuming after the foul, and walked up angrily to the Mexican to have a word with him.
Although he covered his mouth, Argentine newspaper Diario OLE caught Alvarez saying:
"I'll wait for you."
He is then believed to have said:
"I'll kill you outside, wherever you want."
Fernandez then patted the 26-year-old, and allegedly said:
"Go on, go on."
Alvarez was also accused of not putting in enough effort to get back and close down Jackson before he scored the opener (4'). He was also beaten for pace by the Senegalese forward, allowing him to run onto Moises Caicedo's through-ball and complete his brace (18').
After their stellar performance and victory, Chelsea moved up to fourth in the Premier League table, sitting on 10 points after five games (three wins, one draw, one loss). After a three-game road trip, the Blues will travel back home to host Brighton & Hove Albion in their next league fixture on Saturday, September 28.
"A complete performance" - Enzo Maresca expresses his pleasure after Chelsea's 3-0 win over West Ham
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was very pleased with his side's display in their 3-0 win over London rivals West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.
A brace from Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson (4', 18') and a splendid strike from attacking midfielder Cole Palmer (47') secured the win for the Blues. Speaking at a post-match press conference, Maresca said (via SB Nation h/t Football London):
"Especially with the performance and the three points, that is the most important thing. Also, a clean sheet, so it has been a complete performance. We are very happy. (The) players are buying the idea and the different style."
"(We) are on the right path, the right direction. But this is a long journey. Because we won today and we are in a good moment, it looks like everything is fine but not everything is fine. We could attack better, we could defend better, but it is just a matter of time," Maresca added.
Up next, Chelsea will host EFL League Two side Barrow in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 24.
