“I’ll probably have to hold my nose, hate the smell!” - Declan Rice makes promise on what he’ll do if England win Euro 2024
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has promised his fans and others that he'll drink a proper beer if England end up winning Euro 2024. The Three Lions are gearing up for the final of this year's European Championships against Spain on Sunday (July 14).
Speaking in a recent interview, Rice seemingly hinted at a promise that he had made before the final of Euro 2020. Speaking about this, he said (via SportBible):
"I remember saying that (before Euro 2020 final). Since then, I've had a beer but I had it with a bit of lemonade. I'll probably have to hold my nose, as I hate the smell."
The Gunners midfielder hasn't had the best Euro 2024 but will be expected to play a key role in the final encounter against Spain. He will most likely line up alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the defensive midfield slots for Gareth Southgate.
Rice was impressive with Arsenal in the 2023/24 season after making a reported £105 million move from West Ham United in the summer of 2023. He played 51 matches across competitions for the Gunners, bagging seven goals and 10 assists after starting the season as a number six.
He was later given the license to play an advanced role on the left-hand side following Thomas Partey's return from injury.
Alan Shearer seems to favor England to win Euro 2024
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer seemingly favored England to go all the way and win Euro 2024 while writing his BBC Sport column before Sunday's final.
Heading into this match, Spain have won each and every game in the competition so far. Despite that, Shearer thinks that The Three Lions could do something special and wrote (via BBC Sport):
"There are going to be intense individual battles, but England have got players who can hurt Spain too, and we possess another quality which will be crucial- fearlessness. Our young players like Kobbie Mainoo and Marc Guehi certainly won't be intimated by the opposition, or the occassion.
"This team is on the brink of something very special and Sunday is their chance to make it happen. I can't wait to see how they get on."
Despite Shearer's confidence, Gareth Southgate and Co. haven't been at their best in Euro 2024. They've played two draws in the group stages, while two of their knockout games have gone into extra time.
