“I’ll be there, for me it’s important I’m enjoying my football right now” - Victor Osimhen speaks out on January transfer amid Chelsea links
Chelsea target Victor Osimhen insists that he's determined to remain at Galatasaray in the January transfer window despite reports of a potential exit. Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the Nigerian forward for quite some time now and even came close to working out a transfer.
They made repeated efforts to convince Osimhen to move to Stamford Bridge until the final hours of the summer transfer window this year. However, it never came to fruition as the Napoli striker reportedly wasn't convinced with what the club had to offer. Osimhen subsequently joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
Reports in Turkey suggest that his loan contract with the club includes a clause that would allow him to join multiple European outfits such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool, should they make a move in January (via Metro).
However, Osimhen has now affirmed his intention to remain in Turkey for the remainder of the season. Speaking after Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League on Thursday (November 7), the Nigerian said (via Metro):
"Since I came the Galatasaray fans, the club, I saw how big a family this club is. The way they have treated me and my family in a wonderful manner. It’s important to be able to give them my all on the pitch. I’ve seen a lot of the speculation linking me out of the club in January, I can state through me now I’m going to be here until the end of the season."
"So far, I’m enjoying my stay in Istanbul, it’s an amazing club I’m in. I’ll be there, for me it’s important I’m enjoying my football right now, I’m doing a lot for myself and my family and, of course, for this club. I’m happy to be here," he added.
Osimhen has scored six goals and provided four assists in eight appearances for Galatasaray this season.
“He has been absolutely fantastic" - John Obi Mikel heaps praise on Chelsea target
Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has lavished praise on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. He believes the Swedish forward would thrive in the Premier League.
Gyokeres has been in extraordinary form since joining Sporting CP last year. He has racked up 66 goals and 19 assists in just 67 games, playing a marquee role for the club.
The Swedish international has attracted a lot of interest as a result of his exploits in Portugal, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United understood to be interested in his services.
Speaking about Gyokeres on his podcast 'The Obi One,' John Obi Mikel said:
“Definitely. For me, he is a Premier League player, he’s a player that suits the Premier League. He has every attribute to be a Premier League player, strong, big, quick, and most importantly goalscoring. He can score goals and when you look at it, his goal scoring ratio is better than any striker right now in Europe, the stats are there to back it up."
