“I would love him to be here” - When Patrick Mahomes named MLS club he wants Cristiano Ronaldo to join during Lionel Messi comparison

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was quizzed by Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast to pick between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He was quick to sidestep the question and instead praised the two iconic duo.

However, Mahomes went on to urge Ronaldo to follow Messi and make the move to the MLS. He named Sporting Kansas City as the ideal club for the Portuguese star and said earlier this year:

“[Who is the better] athlete between Ronaldo and Messi? You're going to get me canceled by half the generation. I would say Ronaldo may be a better athlete and a better striker, Messi may be more skilled. I'm being very neutral right now. [Messi] is amazing at it [dribbling]. I saw him [Messi] in person. [But yeah] it's true [I haven't seen Ronaldo in person so I can't judge]. If he wants to come play for Sporting Kansas City man I would love him to be here."

Meanwhile, former Portugal star Pedro Mendes also spoke about the possibility of Ronaldo moving to the MLS. He does not want to see another phase of the rivalry between the two icons and instead wants to see Messi and Ronaldo play together at Inter Miami. He told BoyleSports:

"If Cristiano Ronaldo joined Inter Miami, it would be amazing for the fans and incredible for football in America. It would mean that the two best players in the history and future of football, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, would finish their careers together, which would be a dream come true. However, I can't see it happening. It would be very difficult."

Cristiano Ronaldo, whose Portugal team crashed out of the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, is currently with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. Recent reports suggest he is open to extending his contract.

Lionel Messi, meanwhile, is with the Argentine national team ahead of the Copa America final and is unlikely to be leaving Inter Miami soon.

When Cristiano Ronaldo took a cheeky dig at Lionel Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo took a cheeky dig at Lionel Messi after the Argentine rejected a move to the Saudi Pro League and joined Inter Miami in the MLS. The Portuguese star claimed that the Middle Eastern league was better than its American counterpart and said (via ESPN) in 2023:

"The Saudi league is better than MLS. I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here. In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi. In a year, the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have hinted that they would be retiring at their respective clubs.
