"I'm not falling for it" - Jamie Carragher makes bold claim about Arsenal's injury list ahead of Liverpool clashÂ
Jamie Carragher is suspicious of Arsenal's injury list ahead of their crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool this Sunday (October 27). The pundit insists he will not be deceived by Mikel Arteta's claims about his squad's fitness.
The Gunners could be without up to six first-team players for their league showdown against the Merseysiders this weekend. William Saliba will miss the fixture through a one-game suspension.
Martin Odegaard has been sidelined since September due to an ankle injury, and Takehiro Tomiyasu has had just six minutes of action this season because of a knee issue.
Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber, who have missed the club's last two games through injury, have returned to training. However, whether they will feature against Liverpool is yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori has been undergoing tests after sustaining a knee injury against Shakhtar Donetsk in their mid-week Champions League clash.
Carragher, however, is not buying it as he claimed Arsenal's injured players will certainly return to the pitch this weekend. He said on Sky Sports:
"I saw on Sky Sports News today that five or six players haven't trained but I'm not falling for it! They're definitely in the gym and they come out when the cameras gone. I've seen all that one before. I'm not falling for it so hopefully Arne Slot and the Liverpool team are not falling for that as well."
Kieran Tierney has not featured for the Gunners as well this season after picking up a hamstring injury at the 2024 European Championships.
"They're in a better position" - Rio Ferdinand predicts winner of Arsenal vs Liverpool
Rio Ferdinand has backed Arne Slot's side to come away with all three points against the Gunners at the Emirates this weekend.
Arsenal have had a turbulent start to this season's title race. The north Londoners dropped points in draws against Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City before losing their first game of the season against Bournemouth last weekend.
Mikel Arteta's side are four points behind league leaders Liverpool in third place, while Manchester City are second. The Cityzens are just a point off the top of the league.
Giving his prediction for this weekend's top-of-the-table clash, Ferdinand said on TNT Sports:
"I think on form, momentum, I would say 100% Liverpool. I think they're the team that you look at and go, 'they're in a better position.'"
The Manchester United great added:
"With injuries, Arsenal seem decimated in that sense, and they haven't got the momentum at the moment. They're not firing on all cylinders. They're not the Arsenal of last season at the moment."
