“I'm going back like a bull” - Barcelona star Ronald Araujo provides injury update ahead of his expected return from the sidelines
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is happy with his recovery progress as he nears a return from an injury layoff. He revealed the club were surprised at how far ahead of the recovery schedule he was.
Speaking to Barca One (via Mundo Deportivo), Araujo gave Barcelona fans a positive update while addressing the difficulties he faced on his road to recovery. He said:
"I'm progressing very well and that makes me happy. It has not been easy, but I have learned a lot, physically and mentally. The recovery is going well. I'm very happy, at the club they are surprised by how I'm doing. I'm going back like a bull."
He also commented on leading the club on the pitch again.
"For me, being captain of Barça is a source of pride. I feel privileged for it. I know the responsibility that comes with it, but I feel very prepared for it. It comes very naturally to me, I think it's part of my characteristics to be a bit of a leader, I try to be aware of everything, that everyone is well, I worry about where they live and who they live with, if everything is all right," he said.
Ronald Araujo picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Uruguay this summer and subsequently underwent surgery that ruled him out for four months.
Ronaldo Araujo on Barcelona's plans for the season
Ronald Araujo is eager to win trophies with the Blaugrana this season. He also outlined that a club the size of Barcelona should always aim for the UEFA Champions League.
He said:
"We play for a club that is obliged to win titles. When you don't win titles, the season is bad. We are Barça and we are obliged to win titles. It's true that it's a new project with a lot of young players, it was a learning season, we learnt from the hard moments of last season. We all yearn to win the Champions League, it's the biggest objective we have and it's the unfinished business. It's also the title that remains for me and I'm going to give everything to be able to lift it."
Barcelona have started the season well and are currently on top of the LaLiga table. They are three points ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are second.
