Alphonso Davies picks GOAT among Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Ronaldo Nazario

Alphonso Davies has picked Lionel Messi as his choice for the GOAT over Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo Nazario. The Canadian star also picked the Brazilian over the Portuguese but admitted that no one comes above the Argentine forward.

Speaking to Canadian website TSN, Davies stated that he would pick Messi over every other footballer because he has won more Ballon d'Or awards. He added that the Inter Miami star is also his favorite player.

Davies said:

"Everyone thinks this is easy and they have their own opinions. I'm going to tell you my opinion on why I picked this. I respect both of them, I don't think anybody can match them. [Messi has] eight Ballon d’Ors, [Ronaldo has] five Ballon d’Ors. It's unmatched, idk how many goals and trophies they've won. But I think I have to go with my favourite. I'd pick Messi."

Angel di Maria also gave a similar reason to pick Messi over Ronaldo. The Benfica star stated that the Barcelona legend has put some distance between him and the Real Madrid legend. Di Maria said:

"In the end, the best is the one who has more Ballons d'Or, and Messi has eight. For me, therefore, there is some distance between him and Cristiano."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have won 13 Ballon d'Or awards combined. They have dominated the world of football for over a decade and are acknowledged as two of the best players ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to finish with more Ballon d'Or awards than Lionel Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo was talking to Piers Morgan in an interview with Britain's ITV via Reuters when he admitted that he wanted to win more Ballon d'Or awards than Lionel Messi. He claimed that he aimed to win 6-8 awards more than his Argentine rival.

Ronaldo said:

"Messi's in the history of football. But I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him. I'd love it, I think I deserve it."

Speaking about his rivalry with the Inter Miami star, Ronaldo added:

"My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years. I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have left Europe and are now playing elsewhere. The Portuguese star moved to the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr, while the Argentine joined Inter Miami in MLS.
