"I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome" - Manchester United legend tells Cristiano Ronaldo he will be welcomed back at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham believes Cristiano Ronaldo would be welcome at the club under new manager Ruben Amorim. However, he added that the veteran striker might not look to get into coaching after retirement.

The Red Devils have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager and he will start his tenure at the club on November 11. He is expected to bring his coaching staff with him, with speculation around United's interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy also growing.

Sheringham, meanwhile, believes that if Cristiano Ronaldo decides to join Amorim in any capacity at Manchester United after retirement, he would be welcome. He told Flash Score (via Goal):

“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things. I think that Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world.
"I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club, but I doubt that he'll be a coach.”

Ronaldo is still going strong in his playing career at 39 with Al-Nassr. However, he is clearly moving towards the end of his career and might announce his retirement soon.

The Manchester United legend notably played with Amorim, sharing the pitch eight times with him for Portugal.

Manchester United's incoming manager Ruben Amorim was against signing Cristiano Ronaldo at Sporting: Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo started his professional football career at Sporting CP and made 31 appearances for them before joining Manchester United in 2003. After his second stint at Old Trafford ended in November 2022, Sporting were reportedly among the clubs interested in signing him.

However, manager Ruben Amorim reportedly threatened to walk out if the Portuguese side signed the legendary striker. The Times reported:

"Ruben Amorim has intimated that he might walk out on his contract were Ronaldo signed."

Cristiano Ronaldo's contract with Manchester United was mutually terminated in November 2022 after he gave an explosive interview with journalist Piers Morgan. He slammed Erik ten Hag and also pointed out the club's failings over the years.

He was linked with a number of clubs following his exit but ended up joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. He has done well for them so far, registering 67 goals and 18 assists in 77 games across competitions but has yet to win a trophy with them.
