“I had no one up there, apart from my PlayStation” - Aaron Wan-Bissaka opens up on struggles at Manchester United and West Ham United switch
Former Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has opened up on his struggles at Old Trafford. The Englishman has also talked about his decision to quit the Red Devils in favor of a move to West Ham United in the summer.
The 26-year-old has revealed that he felt lonely during his time at Manchester United. He has insisted that he had no one to accompany him during his time at the club apart from his PlayStation. Wan-Bissaka told Standard, as quoted by The Mirror:
"It was difficult. Very difficult. I went [to Manchester] on my own and it was my first time moving away from home. I had no one up there, apart from my PlayStation."
The right-back added:
"Because Manchester’s smaller, everyone’s aware of everything that’s happening. You have to be mentally strong to avoid the negative stuff it comes with."
Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham United in a deal worth reported £15 million this summer. On his switch, he said:
"I spoke to the club and they thought this opportunity was best for me. They gave me some time to think about it. In the moment, I didn’t, but I spoke to family and friends about it and we all decided it was the right time."
Wan-Bissaka was regarded as one of the finest prospects in English football when he signed for Manchester United in 2019. The Red Devils splashed a reported £45 million for his signature but the defender failed to live up to the expectations.
He made 190 appearances for the 20-time English champions and contributed two goals and 13 assists. The full-back won one FA Cup and one League Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
Paul Scholes claims Manchester United legend should be the club's manager ahead of Ruben Amorim
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Ruud van Nistelrooy should have been named the Red Devils' new manager instead of Ruben Amorim. The Dutchman is currently the interim manager of the club following Erik ten Hag's dismissal but is set to relieve his duty to Amorim on November 11.
The Red Devils have been unbeaten in three games under van Nistelrooy, winning twice and drawing once. Scholes, who played with the former Netherlands international striker for the club, has insisted that he should have been named ten Hag's successor. Scholes told TNT Sports (via The Peoples Person):
“I think he should be manager. Just watching him in three games, he did well in Holland, he won the Dutch cup, he won other things, he just looks like he’s made to be a manager. I think he’s better than being an assistant manager, I think he should be managing a club.”
Van Nistelrooy will take on Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday, November 10, in his final game as interim manager. Ruben Amorim will then take charge at the club on Monday, November 11.
