"I don't regret much in life" - Erling Haaland responds when asked if he regretted throwing ball at Arsenal star Gabriel in recent draw
Erling Haaland has made headlines this season for his goal-scoring prowess, but he also drew attention during Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal in September.
After City equalized late in the match, the Norwegian was involved in an incident with Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes. However, Haaland has now said that he has no regrets about his actions.
Pep Guardiola’s side had to come from behind to secure a crucial point against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. The game was marked by several heated moments, beginning with Leandro Trossard’s sending-off at the end of the first half. At that point, Arsenal were leading 2-1, with Haaland opening the scoring before goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel gave the Gunners the advantage.
Just as City appeared to be running out of time, John Stones scored a dramatic equalizer in the final minute of stoppage time. Following the goal, Haaland appeared to throw the ball at the back of Gabriel’s head, which later sparked a series of altercations between players from both teams.
Now captaining Norway ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against Slovenia, Haaland, when asked about the incident and whether it was immature, emphasized that he has no regrets. He said that it occurred in the heat of the moment.
“I don’t regret much in life. In the heat of the moment, things happened in that game. What happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch. That’s how it is," he said (via Mirror).
Erling Haaland ultimately avoided any potential ban for the incident, as VAR reviewed it and no action was taken at the time. Gabriel, meanwhile, has also downplayed the situation, saying that it’s just a part of the game, while claiming he barely remembers the incident now.
Erling Haaland thanks supporters after a tough week
Erling Haaland has started the season with a bang, scoring 10 goals in the opening seven Premier League games. Amid his impressive form, the 24-year-old also faced personal challenges with the passing of close family friend Ivar Eggja.
Although he has started all of Manchester City’s Premier League games, the Norwegian was granted compassionate leave last month, causing him to miss the EFL Cup clash against Watford. Now, after a few weeks, he has taken to social media to express his gratitude to the supporters and the club.
“Hey guys, just wanted to thank the club, the fans and everyone for all the support over the past couple of weeks. Let’s look ahead and focus on what’s next,” he posted on X.
Following the international break, Erling Haaland will look to continue his fine form as Manchester City aim to maintain their unbeaten streak. They are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers away in the PL on October 20 before a Champions League clash at home against Sparta Praha on October 23.
