"I scored one day and I saw him in my DMs" - Chelsea star Cole Palmer on receiving message from David Beckham
Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has revealed that he received a message from Manchester United icon David Beckham. The Chelsea star was a part of England's squad in the 2024 European Championships. He also scored a goal in the final during the Three Lions' 2-1 loss to La Roja.
During a recent interview with GQ, Cole Palmer revealed that he had been in contact with English football icon David Beckham. He said during the interview (via the Mirror):
"Beckham messaged me. I scored one day, and I saw him in my DMs."
Palmer was later asked if he remembers watching Beckham play, to which he replied:
"Not really. I was a bit young."
During his professional career, Beckham played for top European clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He announced his retirement from football in January 2013.
Palmer joined the Stamford Bridge side from Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for a reported transfer fee of £42.5 million in September 2023. Since then, he has bagged 32 goals and 20 assists in 58 appearances across competitions for the Blues.
This season, he has scored seven and assisted five goals in 11 Premier League appearances, including a memorable four-goal haul against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea interested in signing 22-year-old Bournemouth defender: Reports
As per Football Insider, Enzo Maresca's Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth's Ilya Zabarnyi in the summer transfer window. Zabarnyi joined the Cherries from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2023 for a reported transfer fee of £24 million.
In July, he signed a contract extension with the Premier League side, and his current deal with Bournemouth will expire in June 2029. Ilya Zabarnyi has made 58 appearances for Bournemouth across competitions, scoring one goal.
As per the aforementioned report, Enzo Maresca is a huge admirer of the Ukrainian defender. Apart from the 22-year-old, Chelsea are also interested in signing Benfica's Tomas Araujo. However, his release clause is expected to be around £83 million.
Former PSG defender Thiago Silva left the Blues earlier this summer. As a result, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are currently their first-choice defensive pairing. However, Maresca can rotate the defensive duo with Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi.
