"I would sign Haaland" - Barcelona star says he'd sign Manchester City superstar if he were the club's director

Barcelona youngster Marc Casado has stated that he would sign Erling Haaland for the club if he was Deco, Barca's sporting director, for a day. The Manchester City striker has been in sensational form this season, with nine goals in four Premier League appearances so far.

In an interview with Gerard Romero of Jijantes FC, Marc Casado addressed multiple topics pertaining to Barca. Casado was asked by Romero to name a player he would sign if he was Deco for a day.

Casado said (via BarcaBuzz):

“If I were Deco for a day, I would sign Haaland.”

Amid their well-documented financial troubles, it would be difficult for Barcelona to sign the Manchester City striker. Haaland's current deal with Man City runs until 2027.

However, El Nacional recently reported that Barcelona are already accelerating in talks with the Norwegian striker's agents to secure his signing in 2025. He could reportedly be available for €120 million. Haaland was also briefly linked to a move to Camp Nou in 2022, before finalizing his move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

With Robert Lewandowski nearing the final years of his career and his declining form, Barca could benefit from bringing in a pure striker like Haaland. Such a transfer would also ignite his brewing rivalry with Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe, giving a major boost to La Liga.

Speaking to Twitch streamer Ibai Llanos earlier this year, Barcelona star Pedri claimed he would love to sign Haaland for the club as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The midfielder said (via GOAL):

"I would sign [Lionel] Messi if he were 19 or 22 years old, but currently I would sign Haaland. He is a cyborg and scores a lot of goals. Lewandowski is not going to last until he is 60."

In 103 appearances for Manchester City, the Norwegian striker scored a whopping 99 goals and recorded 14 assists. He was also the highest goalscorer in the Premier League in his first two seasons, alongside being the European Golden Boot winner in the 2022-23 season.

Apart from current Barcelona players, former Blaugrana legend David Villa also hoped the Man City striker would come to La Liga in the future. Villa said (via Tribuna):

"To have Erling against [Kylian] Mbappe in La Liga would be incredible. I hope he can come. I don’t think they’ll reach the heights of Messi and Cristiano, but it would still be great for the league."

It remains to be seen where the Norwegian striker ends up if he decides to leave Manchester City. Meanwhile, Barcelona will have to fix their tricky financial situation soon to join the race to sign the striker.
