“I would suggest 100 per cent” - Tim Sherwood names player Ruben Amorim will look to sign at Manchester United
Tim Sherwood has urged Manchester United's rumored new manager Ruben Amorim to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. He believes that the striker is needed at the club as the current options are not good enough.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood stated that Joshua Zirkzee might have to be sold just months after he was signed, as the Dutchman is not a center-forward. He wants the Red Devils to replace him with Gyokeres:
“He (Amorim) needs to then decide what do I need in January. Does he bring in Marcus Edwards with him? That boy is a superstar. Do we bring Gyokeres? He’s absolutely on fire at the moment. I would suggest 100 per cent that boy comes in because they’re [United] starved of centre-forwards. They’ve got Hojlund, they’ve got Zirkzee, who’s not a centre-forward anyway, but they’ve got to get him out before they can bring players in, and that’s the problem.”
However, Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly not a target for Manchester United right now. Florian Plettenberg has reported that the striker is on the radar of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, while Manchester City are also keeping tabs on him.
Manchester United set to appoint Rubem Amorim as new manager
Manchester United have agreed a deal with Sporting CP for Rubem Amorim, as per The Athletic. The Red devils activated the €10 million release clause and were in negotiations for the other coaches and bringing down the manager's notice period.
Amorim recently spoke about his possible move to Manchester United and stated that it was not a done deal. He told the media after Sporting CP's 3-1 win against Nacional this week in Taca da Liga (via ESPN):
"Nobody knows whether this was my farewell match. Nothing is decided yet. I have nothing to say now, we're analysing here. Anything I say will only create more noise. There's nothing to talk about. There's the club statement, everyone knows about it. It was said by the club. For the rest, we don't know the exact details. We'll see.
"There is an intention on the part of the club [United], which is in talks with Sporting, but it will always be my decision. Talking about it now is just creating noise for the club and this whole situation. I can't promise anything. What I do know is that I'll be at training tomorrow and I'll be preparing for the league game with the club on Friday."
Manchester United take on Chelsea on Sunday (November 3), with Ruud van Nistelrooy taking charge of the Red Devils. He was in the dugout this week in the Carabao Cup as well and his side managed to beat Leicester City 5-2.
