"I tell him every day to leave Manchester" - Real Madrid superstar claims Manchester City man Rodri would be 'perfect' for Los Blancos
Dani Carvajal has revealed that he has tried convincing countryman Rodri to leave Manchester City and join Real Madrid. It comes in the wake of the player's impressive outing with Spain in the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament.
Rodri, 28, has been one of the standout players in the competition thus far, judging by his performance with the Spanish national team.
The Manchester City midfielder has been an ever-present figure in Luis de la Fuente's midfield as they aim to clinch what would be their third Euro trophy this weekend.
Rodri's performances have not just caught the eyes of fans and pundits but also some of his teammates, notably Real Madrid star Carvajal. The Spanish defender recently revealed in an interview that he has even tried talking to the Spaniard about quitting City and signing for Real Madrid.
When asked about the chances of Rodri playing for Los Blancos, Carvajal said via an interview, as quoted by @MadridXtra on X:
"Rodri at Real Madrid? Without doubt. I tell him every day to leave Manchester, that there is no sun there, to come to Madrid that we need him. He tells me he has a contract... but he would be perfect for us."
Meanwhile, Rodri is currently under contract with Manchester City until June 2027, and it would be interesting to see if the Spaniard would consider quitting City for Madrid at some point in his career.
Rodri signed for Manchester City in 2019 from Real Madrid rivals Atletico Madrid for a then club record in the region of £62.5 million. He has since spent a total of four seasons at the Etihad, winning four Premier Leagues, a Champions League, and more.
Gary Neville urges England to stop Manchester City star in final
Gary Neville has urged the Three Lions of England to keep out City star Rodri and teammate Fabian Ruiz if they are to stand a chance of winning the Euro 2024 final this weekend.
Both players have been key to Spain's dominating run throughout the competition thus far and could once again play a pivotal role against England in the final.
Speaking during an interview via ITV, football pundit Neville has thus advised England to do all they can to neutralize the dominance of Rodri and Ruiz if they are to stand a chance this weekend. In his words, he said:
"Trust me, if we let Rodri and Fabian Ruiz play in midfield, their (full-backs) jobs will be a lot harder. So it’s really important, the most important thing is to get people up against them two. If they’re releasing the passes to those two wide players (Yamal and Williams), then full-backs for England on Sunday will be in trouble."
“Get against Rodri, get against Fabian Ruiz, try and deal with them and you’ll stifle a lot of attacks forward. I thought they were amazing last night (vs France).”
England play Spain in the finals of the Euros 2024 on Sunday, July 14, at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
