"I think it’ll suit him more" - Paul Scholes names surprise Manchester United star who could be handed role change under new coach Ruben Amorim

Paul Scholes has named the Manchester United player he feels could be handed a new role under incoming head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician was announced as Manchester United’s new head coach following Erik ten Hag's sacking. He will take over the reins on November 11.

As Amorim’s joining date at Old Trafford is fast approaching, speculations are rife about whether the current crop of players will suit his system. Ruben Amorim is known for deploying a back three, which is different from the traditional back four that Ten Hag used at the club.

Paul Scholes recently looked into what Amorim’s tactical setup could mean for the Manchester United players. While talking about the midfield, he picked Bruno Fernandes as one of the two No. 10s in the Portuguese's system. He felt Kobbie Mainoo could have a role to play there as well, telling TNT Sports:

“He’s then got his two number 10s, which is something you don’t see here [in England]. And I think he’s got the players right. I think Fernandes is definitely one of them. I actually think Mainoo could be one of them as well. I think he’d be a better player, playing higher up. He’s one of them 10s with a bit of security in behind. I think it’ll suit him more, but there’s loads of questions to ask.”

Paul Scholes believes Rasmus Højlund can score in bulk if Manchester United teammates create chances for him

After Scholes assessed the potential effect of Ruben Amorim’s tactical set-up for Manchester United players, he talked about Rasmus Hojlund's form. Since joining the Red Devils from Atalanta in 2023, the Denmark international's goalscoring form has been quite disappointing.

In the ongoing season, the 21-year-old has only scored two goals in 11 appearances across competitions. Scholes, however, believes Hojlund’s goalscoring drought could be reversed if United players start creating chances for him. He said:

“Højlund, as we said, has a centre-forward look. He’s looked different the last two or three weeks. He’s looked stronger. He’s looked quicker. I think if they can create chances for him, he will score goals.”

Hojlund has scored once each in the Premier League and Europa League this term so far.
