"I think it's a madhouse over there" - Rio Ferdinand opines on Chelsea's transfer strategy under BlueCo ownership
Rio Ferdinand has shared his take on Chelsea's transfer strategy under the BlueCo ownership. Todd Boehly and co., since taking charge of ownership in 2022, have signed players at a rampant rate.
They have already shelled out over a billion pounds in the transfer market and the spending spree has continued this summer. Ferdinand is flabbergasted by the strategy and is keen to see where the club are in two years' time.
The Manchester United legend is curious about how players feel inside the changing room. He further said that if it's a successful plan, the running authority are geniuses. Speaking on Rio Reacts, Ferdinand said:
"I'd love to have a crystal ball, I'm going to be honest. I think it's a madhouse over there at the moment. Imagine being a player in the dressing room."
Ferdinand continued:
"Every other day they're signing a new player. I think under this ownership, it's 36 players that have come in. They still want another two. Over a billion punds spent. I wanna see what happens in the next 18 months, two years. I wanna fast forward and get to that point. Because I don't know where this is going because if they know where this is going they're geniuses."
Apart from the erratic spending, Chelsea have also been rampant in changing managers. Since BlueCo.'s takeover Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard (interim), Mauricio Pochettino, and now Enzo Maresca have taken charge of the team.
William Gallas goes on astonishing rant aimed at Chelsea
William Gallas has gone on an astonishing rant aimed at Chelsea. The former Blues star reckons the club don't have enough quality despite signing so many players.
Gallas even went on to the extent of saying that the majority of the current side won't even make the bench of the team's past sides. Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas said (via Mirror):
"I look at some of these guys and there's no way they'd get into the best Chelsea teams of the past few years. Half of them wouldn't even get into the bench of the best Chelsea teams."
At one point, the Blues boasted players like Frank Lampard, Deco, Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba, John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, and more on the same side. Even the recent teams of the Stamford Bridge club have boasted world-class names.
The current team, though, is more focused on youngsters. They don't have players who are known for making a difference in the biggest stages.
