"I want to be the first full-back to ever do it" - Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold talks about future goals amid Real Madrid links
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has set sights on winning the Ballon d'Or amid reports of interest from Real Madrid. The Englishman wants to be the first full-back to win the prestigious award.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Alexander-Arnold outlined his desire to win the World Cup for England, before adding he wished to win the Ballon d'Or a bit more. The Liverpool star added that some may question his comments but he had faith in his abilities. He said (via tribal Football):
"Winning a World Cup with England – that would be immense and change the game, but I'd say win a Ballon d'Or, because I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to ever do it. I believe it. Some people may call me deluded, but I believe I can."
When asked what he wants the fans to think of him in 20 years, the Real Madrid target replied he would like to be remembered as someone who changed the game. He continued:
"A legend of football. Someone who changed the game – that's the main thing that I have: 'don't play the game, change the game'. So that's the legacy I want to have: being the greatest right-back to ever play football, if I'm honest. I know that there's been so many out there, but I've got to reach for the stars and that's where I believe my ceiling can go."
Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the Liverpool star's contract situation. Notably, Alexander-Arnold has just one year left on his contract.
Real Madrid target and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold on the importance of winning trophies
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold felt that fulfilling one's potential was more important than winning trophies as an individual.
He admitted he wanted to develop as a player more than winning trophies with club and country, telling Sky Sports:
"It doesn't matter how many trophies and medals you win, it matters about what you've given to the game and whether you've achieved your full potential. I've heard potential thrown around my name since I was six… if you reach that potential and you know you've given it everything to maximise it and be the player you know you can be, which is one of the best ever, then you'll be happy. It doesn't matter how many trophies you win, I guess."
The Liverpool star has also been linked with a January move to Real Madrid with Dani Carvajal ruled out for the season after an ACL injury. However, it is unlikely the Reds will let him leave mid-season.
