“I want to win trophies” - Liverpool superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold drops big admission on future amid Real Madrid transfer links
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander Arnold has opened up on his future amid speculation about a move to Real Madrid. The English full-back has entered the final year of his contract with the Merseyside club and Los Blancos are apparently eyeing him with interest.
The 25-year-old rose through the ranks at Anfield and has been integral to their recent success. Alexander-Arnold has registered 19 goals and 83 assists from 316 games across competitions for Liverpool till date.
The Englishman's efforts have apparently convinced Real Madrid, who were also linked with the player this summer. It is believed that the La Liga giants are plotting a Bosman move for the player next summer.
Speaking after Liverpool's 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, Trent Alexander-Arnold opened up on his desire to win trophies.
"The most important thing is trophies, if I'm honest. I want to win trophies. I'm a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That's probably the main factor of anything. If you have a personality that's elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that's what drives them," said Alexander-Arnold (via (90Min).
The Englishman remained coy about his future, refusing to divulge details of his contract talks with the Reds.
"Look, I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. This one won't be either. I want to be a Liverpool player this season is what I will say," said Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid could enter a pre-agreement with the player in January if he continues to stall on signing a new deal with the Anfield outfit.
Can Real Madrid prise Trent Alexander-Arnold away from Liverpool?
Real Madrid are laying down succession plans for Dani Carvajal, who has entered the final year of his contract. The Spaniard is on the wrong side of 30 but has shown no signs of slowing down.
While Los Blancos are likely to hand him a new deal, they are also looking ahead to the future. Trent Alexander-Arnold has apparently been identified as the ideal candidate to take over from Carvajal.
With Liverpool embarking on a fresh journey under Arne Slot, the English full-back could also seek a new adventure next year. A move to Real Madrid could also satisfy the player's hunger for trophies, with Los Blancos among the most successful clubs in the world.
The move would also unite Trent-Alexander Arnold with Jude Bellingham, with recent reports suggesting that the two players are the best of friends.
