“I would’ve given up my dream of Madrid for him” - Kylian Mbappe opens up on how he thought of not joining Real Madrid to benefit brother Ethan
Kylian Mbappe has shared that he was willing to turn down a move to Real Madrid to help his brother Ethan. The French superstar left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer as a free agent to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos had been in hot pursuit of the 25-year-old for years, but finally found success in 2024. The Parisians tried hard to convince the player to stay but ultimately failed in their efforts.
Speaking to AS, Kylian Mbappe claimed he was willing to stay with PSG if it benefitted his brother's career.
“That happened. It was what affected me the most. It was Madrid or PSG. And he told me he didn’t want to stay, that it wasn’t normal what they were doing to me," said Mbappe.
"I told him, ‘If you want to stay, I’ll renew and we’ll stay a little longer.’ I would have given up my dream of Madrid for him, so that nothing happens to him. What’s the point of signing for the best club in the world if you kill your brother’s career,” he added.
Following his brother's move to Real Madrid, Ethan Mbappe also left the Parc des Princes this summer. He is currently with Lille.
How many goals has Kylian Mbappe scored for Real Madrid so far?
Kylian Mbappe enjoyed a blockbuster start to life with Real Madrid following his move this summer. The French superstar's first game for Los Blancos was the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta in August.
Mbappe got on the scoresheet as the LaLiga champions won the game 2-0. It would be the player's first trophy for Real Madrid.

However, he has still registered 11 goals and two assists from 21 games across competitions for Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti has deployed Kylian Mbappe in a centre-forward role in most games, owing to the presence of Vinicius Junior on the left.
Real Madrid are currently second in the league table with 36 points from 16 games, two points behind leadersBarcelona with a game in hand.
Los Blancos, however, are 24th in the Champions League table and will next face Atalanta in the tournament on Tuesday, December 10.
